Communication is essential for maintaining one’s health, finding and retaining a job, managing a household, and participating in social activities. March 3, 2015 Today’s communication between most individuals has been substantially enhanced by voice, data, and video technologies. But for people who have both hearing loss and visual loss, specific equipment might be needed in order to hold a phone call, send an email, or use the Internet.

With the help of the European Deafblind Equipment Distribution Program, low-income people with hearing and vision loss in addition to other disabilities will have access to telephone, advanced communications, emergency planning, and information services. The initial goal of the WE CAN BE CONNECTED project is to seek funding from the European Commission in order to purchase and distribute the necessary equipment that will ensure accessibility to communication and information for deafblind people with low incomes throughout Europe.
