On March 7, the Web Accessibility Initiative Communities of Practice (WAI-CooP) initiative will host a new open meeting.
This event will concentrate on the Web Accessibility Directive’s feedback mechanism and complaints procedure. The European Commission recently emphasized in a Web Directive evaluation report that the feedback and enforcement tools have not yet reached their full potential. There are numerous issues to discuss:
- Are these methods known to public-sector bodies? Are they easy to find for users?
What is the experience of users who submit input to public sector bodies on web accessibility? What are the difficulties?
How many users take things a step further and file a complaint with law enforcement? What is their background?
- How could the feedback and enforcement mechanisms be improved? What can we learn from the first years of implementation of the directive?
- Panelists from public sector bodies, enforcement bodies and disability community will be debating these issues, followed by discussion with online participants.
The event is open to the public and may be of interest to practitioners from government or the commercial sector, groups representing individuals with disabilities, researchers, product or service suppliers, training providers, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and policymakers.
