Definition:

HSD10 disease is a rare, life-threatening neurometabolic disease characterized by a progressive neurodegenerative course, epilepsy, retinopathy and progressive cardiomyopathy. In the infantil subtype, affected boys may show lethargy, poor feeding and evidence of mitochondrial dysfunction in the newborn period, with subsequent mild developmental delay. The disease is often fatal around 2-4 years of age.
