Etiologies leading to deafblindness could now be prevented and treated thanks to the Chinese alternative medicine: A comparison to orphan drugs (Study by Han Yang)

Orphan drugs are used to prevent, treat and diagnose rare diseases. Some diseases could cause auditory and visual problems that can lead to deafblindness. Developing specific medication for these rare diseases is often laborious, either because a proper treatment has not been found or because these drugs components are expensive and difficult to obtain.
Han Yang, a Chinese student, has conducted research on the active components of Chinese medicine and Western orphan medications based on the relative accessibility of Chinese herbal remedies. This involves a comparison of the two to see if herbal remedies might, in some way, take the place of Western orphan pharmaceuticals and lessen the consequences that these uncommon diseases might have on the general population.
The active components of Chinese herbal medicines can be used as a starting point for research organizations studying uncommon diseases and orphan pharmaceuticals, which is predicted to increase the variety of orphan treatments and benefit certain patients. This is a crucial step in spreading awareness of the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine worldwide.
The orphan drug website was searched for Western medicine orphan medications and their accompanying treatment diseases as part of the methodology for this study. Then, on CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure), look up an analogous Chinese treatment for the ailment using the disease name as the main search keyword.
This table was created by analyzing the key pharmacological effects of Traditional Chinese medicine as well as summarizing the treatment alternatives that are actually effective in these more reliable studies. There is, however, a dearth of orphan drug research in China, and there are no set standards for diagnosis or therapy.
Chinese herbal medicines have a complicated chemical makeup, and their effects frequently come from the interaction of several different substances. The safety and dependability of multi-component Chinese herbal medicines cannot be established through laboratory testing, and even if it is found that a combination of Chinese herbal medicines has a unique effect on a rare disease, the strict quality inspection process may prevent it from being marketed as a circulating drug. This topic has received very little research in China. This made it challenging to carry out the study.
